Finding somewhere to eat as a student can be difficult. You have to constantly live on a budget, especially when living away from home but it is important to treat yourself now and then. Eating out with friends or as part of date night is a nice treat to have, maybe once a month. Read on to find out 10 great places for students to eat in the North East of England.
1. Wetherspoons
Although Wetherspoons don’t offer an ongoing student discount, they do offer discount booklets during the freshers period. However, discount is not necessary because their menu is very reasonably priced and has a wide range of courses. They offer free drinks with some meals and a 2 for 1 offer on others. From Monday to Friday they have Club deals with each day offering different courses with a free drink.
2. McDonald’s
McDonald’s is the best option in this list in terms of low prices. You can get a substantial meal and a dessert for well under £10 and with any large meal, you can get a free cheeseburger. Hamburger or Mcflurry with your student card. They are now starting to creep up to Wetherspoons’ ideas by offering a order and pay by app service.
3. Nando’s
While Nando’s is slightly more expensive than the others and doesn’t offer any student discount, they are still a reasonably priced restaurant with big portions. If you like afro-Portuguese style chicken, this is the place for you. They also offer refillable drinks.
4. Toby Carvery
If you are living away from home as a student, you may be missing your roast dinners on a Sunday. Toby Carvery is the perfect option to get your roast without having to spend all of the time cooking it. They also offer refillable drinks. Other offers include a 2 for £10 main meals offer when you sign up to their newsletter.
5. Casa Italia
Casa Italia is an Italian restaurant in Sunderland with multiple course offers. Perfect for a date. They also offer 2 for 1 cocktails on occasion.
6. The Blue Bell
The Blue Bell in Yarm offers a 2 for 1 deal Monday to Saturday on their parmesans, pizzas some of the main meals and light bites. This gives you a cheaper option to dine with a friend as you can split the bill.
7. The Centenary
The Centenary in Norton is run by Sizzling Pubs which offers very similar deals to Wetherspoons such as free drinks with some of their meals and 2 for 1 offers on other set meals. This is a cheap and cheerful pub.
8. Bella Italia
There are a few Bella Italia restaurants in the North East such as in Newcastle and Gateshead. They are perfect for students because they offer 50 percent off pizza and pasta dishes from Monday to Wednesday and 2 for 1 cocktails on the same days. However, this restaurant is a bit more pricey than others mentioned.
9. Five Guys
Five Guys also has a few restaurants in the North East. Here, you have more choice of what goes in your burgers or hot dogs but they are particularly pricey. This would be a real treat after payday or your student loan payout. Unfortunately, they do not offer discount.
10. Kaspas
Finally, Kaspas is a dessert lounge very much like Creams, perfect for those with a sweet tooth. While desserts are the only course they provide, their portions are huge and are likely to fill you up for hours and the prices aren’t too unreasonable either. You can choose from a range of waffles, crepes, sundaes, cakes, puddings and a range of sweet drinks.
