The mobile application SoloCoin, developed by Arbob Mehmood, offers discounts available to users who stay at home on online platforms and in nearby stores.
One of the most controversial issues in the past few months are the people not following the rules when the world is being tested with the pandemic. People who refuses to obey social isolation calls and some of them constantly trying to violate the curfew are called out by those who want to overcome the epidemic in a short time. We still see people going out onto the streets without wearing a mask and not keeping an eye on social distancing. Unfortunately, the situation is the same all over the world. No matter how much awareness campaign is done, the effect is limited. Especially with the arrival of spring, people’s sensitivity about social isolation is decreasing. So what are the solutions that can motivate people to stay home at their own will? Solocoin app resolved the issue in a very creative way.
What Is It?
SoloCoin offers users discounts from various platforms such as Amazon and Netflix based on their length of stay at home.
SoloCoin aims to promote social isolation during the pandemic by rewarding people the more they stay in their homes. For this, the time spent at home is turning into a virtual currency that can be used as a discount on Amazon, Netflix, Swiggy, Zomato and many other services frequently used during quarantine.
Coming in third in hackathon CODE19, the app created by the Indian entrepreneur Arbob Mehmood. The 22-year-old entrepreneur has also created another application called Bramble, an application programming interface that allows developers to reward those who play their games with cryptocurrencies. From this perspective, we see that the approach in Bramble is adopted by SoloCoin as well.
Social media influencers play an important role in the marketing of SoloCoin. Many influencers have agreed to contribute free of charge as the initiative is an open source model and provides social benefit in combating COVID-19.
Appearing on Google Play with Beta version as a location-based app, development process of SoloCoin is still ongoin. Arbob Mehmood stated that many new features will be added to the application. Among these new features; rewarding good habits such as hand washing and yoga, and picking less crowded ways to commute to work are listed. In addition, users will be offered the opportunity to chat with other people in quarantine in the area where they live and a map listing the important stores nearby.
From the application page, we can see that SoloCoin currencies have begun to take effect in stores nearby as well as online platforms. In addition, users can invite their friends to compete with themselves on specified tasks. The winners can level up and gain certain badges, such as leader and so.
There are also features that Mehmood plans to add to the application after the pandemic. Instead of staying home, awards will be presented on the issues of gathering and solidarity.
