Gargling is one of the easiest and most effective ways to relieve the pain and kill viruses. If you have a sore throat and want to get rid of it immediately, you can prepare these simple mouthwashes to cure it. Some of these mouthwashes need to be prepared with hot water but that doesn’t mean you should use them while they are hot, you can let them cool for a while.
1. Salt and Water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
If you have a mouthwash at home, you may add 1 tablespoon of it as well. Use freshly prepared mixture every day and make sure not to swallow it.
2. Lemon and Water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup water
This mixture is also good for swollen throats and the acid content can kill viruses.
3. Water, Honey, Lemon and Ginger
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup hot water

4. Hot Sauce And Water
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
Chili pepper contains a substance called “capsicum” which relieves pain and fights with infection. It will burn just a little bit but you will see the amazing effect after gargling it every 15 minutes.
5. Sage, Vinegar And Water
- 1 teaspoon sage
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
Sage helps in clearing stuffy nose, relieving pain and swelling.
6. Saffron And Water
- 1 teaspoon saffron
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup hot water
This yellow spice is an excellent antioxidant, which means it can fight several diseases.
7. Wheatgrass Juice
Wheatgrass is full of chlorophyll which prevents bacteria growth. Keep this juice in your mouth for 5 minutes. Not only can it cure your sore throat but it is also good for your teeth.
8. Clove Tea
- 1 cup hot water
- 2-3 dried cloves
Clove can also be used for toothaches. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agents which relieve pain and heal wounds.
9. Tomato Juice
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup tomato juice
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
It can be used as a temporary solution for a sore throat. It contains lycopene which is a powerful antioxidant.
10. Green Tea
Green tea fights infections but it can also relieve pain. It can be used as a mouthwash or you can simply drink it. You might be tired of drinking green tea, especially if you don’t like the taste of it so gargling seems more logical.
11. Vinegar And Salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon apple vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
If your sore throat stems from a bad cough, try apple vinegar. Vinegar provides an anti-microbial environment with its acid content. You may use it 3-5 times a day because the overuse of vinegar may harm your teeth, so do keep that in mind.
12. Vinegar And Honey
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup honey
Eat 1 tablespoon of this ultimate mixture once every 4 hours.
13. Goldenseal And Water
- 1 1/2 teaspoons golden seal
- 1 cup hot water
Goldenseal has anti-microbial and anti-bacterial agents, it relieves pain and helps to treat infected tissues.
14. Echinacea And Water
- 2 teaspoons echinacea
- 1 cup hot water
Echinacea is an herbal bacteria killer but unlike any other antibiotics, it kills bacteria by boosting the immune system.
15. Licorice And Water
- 1 teaspoon licorice syrup or powder
- 1 cup warm water
It relieves pain and prevents phlegm which causes the cough.
16. Raspberry Tea
- 2 teaspoons dried raspberry
- 1 cup hot water
Raspberry is an ancient home remedy which has been used for treating from flu to open wounds for many years. Brew it for ten minutes before gargling.
